We created Noe Consulting because of several observations and beliefs which serves as our guiding principles:
OBSERVATIONS
- Organizations often use its HR departments in a tactical manner, deploying it to fix issues, clean up mistakes or execute tasks which often have little long term relevance on the strategic direction of the organization. Such thinking is often summed up in the phrase: "HR hires and fires people."
- Many executives and managers within organizations do not understand the various functions of HR or the power which can be unleashed in support of it's achievement of a stated organizational strategy.
- Many within HR have "fallen into HR" because they "like helping people." While this is a good attitude to have, it supports the tactical perspective of HR commonly held and limits the effective development and execution of an HR Strategy in support of an overall Business Strategy.
- Reliance on a large consulting firm often is the result of lack of willingness to do due the hard work of review and analysis of the function as well as alignment with the Business Strategy. In turn, large consulting firms often take plans used for other organizations and seek to sell and convince organizations of implementation without having the understanding of your organization's culture or work. Moreover, such consulting organizations usually deploy freshly minted consultants with MBAa or JDs who have had less than four to five years actual working experience within Human Resources. Thus, we believe that the lack of experience coupled with the lack of curiosity as to the cause of the root of a problem or circumstance may impact the creating of a new effective HR Strategic Plan to organizations long term plans.
- Organizations may not have a strategic business plan, despite what it says, which is actually actionable, known and understood by various functional leaders and employees.
BELIEFS
- We believe that there is no separation between the thinking, behavior and actions of an employee at work, and the person outside of work. In other words, "how we do anything is how we do everything."
- We believe that organizations can fundamentally change or influence change the communities in which it serves based upon how its employees execute their duties in the workplace and live their lives within the community in which the organization serves. We believe that this is the new paradigm of Corporate Social Responsibility.
- We believe employees understand the obstacles which impact an organization's ability to execute at a high level. However, many organizations and executives fail to acknowledge that these employees have such information and understand how to solve problems which impact the organization's strategic plan. Asking employees is in essence a version of "seeing or feeling" an employee.
- We believe that this type of work is hard work, meaningful work and necessary work and that the road to building a great organization is commitment to a process. As such, we believe that Organizations have to have this desire before seeking to engage a consulting corporation such as Noe Consulting.
